After installing a new soft-top on our 2000 Jeep TJ a few years ago, it didn’t take long for me to notice the constant flapping, noise, and water pooling on top during Florida’s frequent rainstorms. After putting up with it for as long as I could, I decided there had to be a better solution to these problems besides going back to a hardtop. I searched high and low for a commercial product to remedy the issue, but only found “homemade” and MacGyvered solutions in chat rooms and forums.
With my search for an off-the-shelf commercial solution coming up dry, I decided to design it myself, with the key design features being a universal fit across multiple vehicles and the ability to install it without having to remove the top. After much trial and error, I arrived at a simple solution utilizing a flexible “bow” to maintain tension on the top and adjustable C-shaped ends to secure it to the rollcage. The length of the tensioning bow can be trimmed to dial in the correct amount of tension needed for various factory and aftermarket soft tops. This, in conjunction with the adjustable mounting ends, allows for a fast and easy installation no matter your setup. Most of the time, the simple solutions are not the obvious solutions.
